join us for an embroidery session inspired by shilpa gupta’s installation, for, in your tongue, i cannot fit, led by dallas-based artist rebecca carter. In this workshop we will explore the expressive potential of hand embroidered text (and other marks) onto fabric while looking more in-depth at the poems featured in the exhibition. a variety of surfaces and a broad selection of thread choices will be provided for stitching and experimentation. Participants are also welcome to bring their own textiles for embellishment as well as any pliable linear elements for experimentation.
stitch with us is a healing program for radical embroidery where we explore tough topics through textile. more + more embroidery is being used as a tool for social expression. led by a local artist working with textile, participants are invited to stitch it out while exploring themes + issues addressed by one of dc’s current exhibitions.
capacity is limited — registration required.
