we invite you to look at + experience art — slowly. Slow Art Day is a global art museum + gallery event with a simple mission: help more people discover for themselves the joy of looking at + loving art.
slow looking is not about curators’, historians’ or even artists’ interpretations of art, but rather the viewer’s relationship with the work — providing time + space for personal discovery. the goal of the day is to take the time to really look at + experience the power of art.
join us for an afternoon of socially distanced, independent long-looking + visual exploration followed by a guided group inquiry discussion + discovery debrief with dc’s learning coordinator betsey gravatt. this year’s slow art day @ dc will focus on artist liu xiaodong’s exhibition borders.
about the exhibition:
liu xiaodong: borders presents a new series of works by the contemporary painter, who has tirelessly documented sociological settings for over thirty years. the exhibition is comprised of paintings, diary entries + videos developed from the hundreds of drawings, photographs + footage xiaodong created throughout two research trips led along the u.s.-mexico border in 2019.
