gabrielle goliath: chorus | 25 september 2022 – 19 march 2023
acclaimed internationally for her immersive installations that confront intricate social concerns, multidisciplinary south african artist gabrielle goliath makes her debut in the united states at dallas contemporary this fall with a presentation of her haunting multi-channel video installation chorus – an elegy to victims of gender-based violence. with a practice that probes identity and present-day conditions of black, brown, femme and queer life, goliath’s work makes an important statement at a time in america where complicated issues of justice and civil liberties are urgently being called into question.
a note of care: this is a work of mourning. whilst you will not be confronted with scenes of violence, images of abjection or horror, you are nonetheless asked to presence yourself within a commemorative space, to participate within a sonic vigil, calling to remembrance black, brown, femme and queer lives, lost to the crisis of femicide in south africa.
