you can make your own slime (clear, opaque, colorful, stretchy, fluffy, or glittery!) with ingredients in your home.

ages 4 + up

3 ingredient slime

ingredients

  • 8 oz. elmer’s glue (white or clear)

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 2-3 tbsp saline solution

  • 1-2 drops liquid food coloring (optional)

  • ¼ cup glitter (optional)

steps

pour the glue into a bowl. stir in food coloring and glitter, if desired

add the baking soda to the glue mixture + stir until smooth

pour in 2 tablespoons of the saline solution + stir slowly (the mixture should begin to harden, becoming stringy)

continue mixing slowly until a ball of slime forms

work slime between your hands until smooth (if the slime is too slimy/sticky, work in another 1/2 tablespoon of saline solution as needed)

galaxy/unicorn slime

ingredients

  • 1 bottle elmer’s glitter glue (6 oz) or 1 bottle elmer’s clear glue with ⅛ cup glitter added

  • 1 tbsp water (or more if needed)

  • ½ tbsp baking soda

  • 1 ½ tbsp saline solution

steps

pour the glue into a bowl

add water and baking soda to the glue mixture + stir until smooth

pour in the saline solution + stir slowly

add additional water, 1 tbsp at a time, until slime reaches desired consistency

fluffy slime

fluffy slime is just like regular slime but with shaving cream added. the amount of shaving cream you add will change the texture + consistency of the slime. the more you add, the “fluffier” it will be!

ingredients

  • ⅔ cup elmer’s white glue

  • ¼ cup water

  • 2 to 3 cups shaving cream

  • 1.5 tbsp saline solution (must have boric acid and sodium borate in the ingredient list)

  • liquid food coloring (optional)

steps

pour white glue into a bowl

add water + baking soda, then mix together

add shaving cream + mix again

add food coloring + mix until you are satisfied with the color

slowly add in contact solution while kneading (the slime will be very sticky during this step, and that’s okay!)

if slime is not stretchy enough, add ½ tbsp contact solution

slime recommendations

  • cover your play area with a tablecloth, placemat, or cutting board for easy cleanup

  • store slime in airtight plastic containers at room temperature

  • use glitter glue if you want to avoid the mess of using real glitter

  • add mix-ins like pom poms or beads for extra texture + color
