step 1
think about your community.
where is it located geographically?
who lives there?
what are the people like?
is your community rural or urban?
what type of businesses are there? are there many small businesses, or large corporate offices?
what might your community feel strongly about?
is there a local sports team that everyone follows?
is it an arts community?
is your community known for its music, dance, or fine arts?
is your community known for its delicious food?
do you have a local hero?
what might your community stand for?
while you brainstorm, write or draw things that represent your community.
step 2
once you have finished brainstorming, look back through your responses + select a few that you find most important about your community.
how might these elements represent your community as a whole?
step 3
draft out your flag.
think about symbols, colors, + text that could represent your selected community elements.
arrange a strong composition for this information that tells the story of your community.
step 4
begin constructing the final flag.
bring all of the elements together to create a stunning representation of your unique community.
get creative with your supplies!
reflect
what does your flag say about your community?
what specifically do your selected colors, shapes, + text represent about your community?
what might someone else learn about your community by seeing your flag?
how might we spread more admiration + support for our communities?
be sure to share your flag by using the hashtag #dcfromhome
