Marcello Andres Ceramics
fires clay in a Quonset hut in the Cedars neighborhood in Dallas, Texas. The ceramics studio creates both functional art—light fixtures and restaurant-quality dinnerware of all kinds—as well as collectible sculptural artwork. The functional work is rooted in cultivating conviviality and sentiment inspired by the family-style dinners that clay artist Marcello Andres Ortega regularly experienced as the youngest of his Chilean-immigrant family. His sculptural works are expressions and observations of power dynamics, whether that’s the intensity of an ocean wave or the tension between urges and boundaries.
