dc’s college night is an art + music-filled night exclusively for college students. this event provides a fun + dynamic setting to hang out with peers while working + networking with local creatives within the museum galleries. college night features an after-hours experience at the museum featuring a new DC EMPTY performance by unt-based arts collective anti-avant garde avant garde artists collective, gallery exhibitions by shepard fairey and gabrielle goliath, and art making activities with local artists.
the DC EMPTY performance will feature the denton-based unt group, the anti-avant garde avant garde artist collective with a piece called ‘cooperative conundrum,’ which explores notions of community and methods of gathering and connectivity through an allegorical performance of movements, conflicts, compromises, and synchronicities. utilizing a spool of yarn, members of the artist collective will embody archetypal figures -- providers, weavers, community -- and engage in a connective act that exhausts collective resources. anti-avant garde avant garde artist collective (aagag) is an experimental artist group founded by undergraduate students in denton, texas. aagag strives to create collaborative pieces and performances in dallas-fort worth in which they explore and experiment in different mediums. the collective cultivates a supportive environment where they can rely on one another to be honest about in-progress work. they are advised by interdisciplinary artists and assistant professor at the university of north texas pedram baldari.
DC EMPTY is a new performance and film programming series presented in collaboration with regional artists, providing a short-term venue to deploy a range of time-based work in available space throughout the museum.
